The World Cricketers Association (WCA) has announced a number of updates to its Player Advisory Board (PAB), reinforcing the collective voice of players at a pivotal moment for the global game.

Changes to the WCA PAB include:

  • Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)
  • Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka)
  • Wayne Madsen (Italy)
  • Daryl Mitchell and Maddy Green (New Zealand), replacing Tim Southee (retired) and Sophie Devine

The WCA thanks Tim Southee and Sophie Devine for their significant contribution to the PAB, recognising their leadership in representing and advancing outcomes for players and the global game.

The new appointments join a group of established player leaders including Pat Cummins (Australia), Jason Holder (West Indies), Heather Knight (England), Aiden Markram (South Africa), Scott Edwards (Netherlands), and Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa).

These updates follow recent in-person team meetings between WCA staff and WCA affiliated teams competing at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, building on engagement with the women’s international teams in October last year. Together, these forums ensure the players shaping the modern game are directly influencing its future and long-term success.

About the WCA’s Player Advisory Board

The PAB’s composition reflects WCA’s growth to represent the players from across 17 of the top cricket countries on global matters, providing insight and guidance on key global issues including  ICC Events, global scheduling, commercial frameworks, and other matters common to players around the world.

Commenting on the updates, WCA CEO, Tom Moffat said:

“Players continue to be highly engaged on the global issues impacting cricket and the players. Our recent meetings with the international men’s teams were another great opportunity to hear their collective perspective and discuss the direction of the game.

The players care about cricket’s long-term health and success, and there was strong discussion around the game’s global potential, including participation in the 2028 Olympics. The players also shared their views on key global issues and received WCA updates relating to both player opportunities and rights.

Players around the world recognise the importance of working collectively to both protect their rights and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the global game. At this important time for cricket, players want to help ensure the whole sport thrives.”

Maddy Green (New Zealand) said:

“There has never been a more important time for players around the world to be united off field, to ensure they have a say, and can contribute to the growth and success of the game.”

Wayne Madsen (Italy) said:

“I’m proud to bring the perspective of an emerging cricket nation to the table. The support we’ve already had from the WCA has been vital in helping our players, and it’s important that players across all countries continue to come together to shape a more inclusive and sustainable global game.”

Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka) said:

“I am truly honored and delighted to be appointed to the Player Advisory Board of the World Cricketers’ Association.

I look forward to contributing my experience as an international cricketer to help strengthen the voice of players across the world. It is important that players from all regions, especially from Asia, are heard, understood, and represented in key decisions that shape the future of the game.”
