Following the tragic death of Phillip Hughes in November 2014, Cricket Australia (CA) commissioned Mr David Curtain QC to undertake an enquiry into the circumstances of this terrible accident, and make recommendations to improve safety within the cricket environment.
Released today is a list of eight (8) recommended areas for improvement; a full list of these can be accessed here.
The recommendations include impacts in both the training and playing conditions, and will require the support of national, state and local cricket administrators. The ACA have and will continue to seek player feedback on each of the recommended changes, and for Mr Curtain’s report we have provided input through the OH&S committee and the Playing Conditions Committee, plus direct conversations with Mr Curtain and CA regarding specific considerations.
The changes may take time and investment to introduce, however no price should be too great to ensure safety within our great game. Player safety is at the very core of the ACA and we will continue to support improvements in the game, now and in to the future.
